Let the celebrations begin… 🌸💀
Hey 210,
It is officially one of the biggest, most vibrant weekends of the entire year in San Antonio. Between illuminated river floats and marigold-draped ofrendas, the city’s cultural calendar is dialed all the way up. We sorted through the chaos to bring you an unmistakable weekend 6-pack—from twilight Shakespeare on the lawn to a Sunday morning tradition trail.
Grab an iced cold brew (or a cold Topo Chico), and let’s map out your weekend. 👇🏽

Muertos Fest (Free!)

When: Friday, Oct 23 (5:00 PM – 11:00 PM) | Saturday, Oct 24 (10:00 AM – 11:00 PM) | Sunday, Oct 25 (10:00 AM – 9:00 PM)

The Vibe: Marigold carpets, brass fanfare, copal smoke, and moving community artistry under the skyline.

Five stages host continuous live music spanning Tejano, cumbia, indie rock, and brass, paired with drum and puppet processions weaving through the civic park walkways.
The Move: Skip driving anywhere near South Alamo or Cesar Chavez; take VIA transit downtown or walk in from the King William neighborhood, and aim to catch the evening drum-and-puppet procession right around sunset.
Official details: Muertos Fest
Day of the Dead River Parade

When: Friday, Oct 23 | 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM (Parade begins near Lexington Ave at 7:00 PM)
Where: Downtown San Antonio River Walk (Route spans downtown horseshoe through Arneson River Theatre)
The Vibe: Glowing river barges, towering Catrinas, drum processions, and marigolds reflecting off the water.
The Details: The official kickoff to San Antonio’s citywide Día de los Muertos weekend takes to the water. More than 25 floating barges decked out in altars, giant calaveras, costumed dancers, and live musicians float along the River Walk before a packed downtown audience.
The Move: If you don't have reserved amphitheater chair tickets, set up early along public street bridges (like the St. Mary’s or Commerce Street bridges) around 6:15 PM, or snag a patio drink reservation along the northern Museum Reach cut before the crowds push in.
The Weekend Lineup

Where: 206 Brooklyn Ave., San Antonio
The Vibe: Kick off the weekend with patio vibes, cocktails, and a laid-back spot to catch up with friends. This is your sign to make happy hour the plan, not just the pregame.

Tickets: No ticket needed. Food and drinks are extra.

Día de los Muertos: Celebrando las Misiones
When: Saturday, Oct 24 | 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM

The Vibe: Picnic blankets, sugar skull decorating, low-stress lawn space, and sunset story circles.
The Details: Hosted by the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office, this all-ages evening offers hands-on craft stations (calavera mask-making, paper marigold folding), face painting, and storytelling honoring Southside mission heritage. As darkness falls, the giant drive-in screen features a community altar display and outdoor family screening.
The Move: Bring folding lawn chairs and a cooler with snacks; free parking is available on-site, making this far easier on families with wagons or strollers than navigating downtown parade congestion.

A Midsummer Night's Dream @ UTSA
When: Friday, Oct 23 – Sunday, Oct 25 | 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM each night
Where: Brenan Lawn at UT San Antonio Main Campus (One UTSA Circle)
The Vibe: Twilight Shakespeare under the stars, picnic blankets, and zero ticket fees.
The Details: UT San Antonio Dramatic Arts takes theater outdoors for a sunset staging of Shakespeare’s classic comedy. Set against the outdoor amphitheater architecture of the campus Brenan Lawn, the interactive production features playful audience immersion zones and clever staging tailored to the open air.
The Move: Admission is completely free, and campus parking is complimentary in unmarked commuter spots on the weekend. Pack low-profile folding lawn chairs or a picnic blanket, and arrive by 6:45 PM to grab a center-lawn spot before the sunset performance starts.

Día de los Muertos Tradition Trail
The Mission: Skip the standard Sunday routine and trace San Antonio’s rich Day of the Dead heritage on a self-guided altar-scouting trail. Head out to observe three distinct community ofrendas across town, taking time to examine the intricate details—from marigold archways and framed photos to sugar skulls and hand-crafted copal burners—before the weekend concludes.
The Reward: A meaningful, visually stunning cultural wrap-up to the weekend that connects you straight to generations of San Antonio remembrance and folk art, completely free from hectic festival crowds.
The Spots:
The Community Altars at Civic Park at Hemisfair (434 S. Alamo St): Walk the perimeter of the great lawn between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to view more than 80 monumental, family-built ofrendas up close in the daylight before the afternoon music sets draw peak crowds.
Historic Market Square & Centro de Artes (514 W. Commerce St): Head west along Commerce Street to view the indoor memorial altars and traditional artisan displays set up inside the gallery and across the shaded plaza courtyard.
Rinconcito de Esperanza (816 S. Colorado St): Wrap up your trail on the Westside at the historic cultural compound, where neighborhood families create deeply personal, grassroots altars and marigold displays centered on community history.
See you out there!
